Learn how to Install a Handheld Showerhead in Just a Few Minutes

In this video I show how to install a handheld showerhead. The particular one I installed was a magnetic handheld showerhead.

If your old showerhead is leaking or not working correctly, watch this video and read below to see how easy it is to replace it with a new magnetic handheld showerhead unit.

As part of our bathroom remodeling project, and the re-tiling of our shower and bathtub area, we decided to install a new handheld showerhead. This one is unique, relative to our old one, in that the handheld portion magnetically attaches to the wall handheld adapter attachment section.

The first step in installing the handheld showerhead unit was to screw in a new shower arm pipe into the threaded plumbing fixture in the wall.

I first applied plumbers tape to the shower arm pipe, wrapping the tape in the opposite direction that the pipe is screwed into the threaded plumbing fixture. The plumber’s tape prevents joint leaks.

Note that I only hand tightened the shower arm pipe into the threaded plumbing fixture. But that said, I made sure that it was tightly screwed into place.

Next, I attached the handheld adapter to the shower arm pipe. Note that I also attached plumbers tape to the other end of the shower arm pipe to again, ensure there is no leaking between the shower arm pipe and the handheld adapter.

After hand tightening the handheld adapter, I used adjustable pliers with masking tape on the jaws, to firmly tighten the nut on the handheld adapter.

Then, I connected one end of the handheld showerhead hose to the adapter, making sure that a washer was placed into the nut on the hose. All I used was my fingers to tighten this hose nut onto the handheld adapter.

Next, I connected the other end of the hose to the handheld showerhead unit, again making sure I installed the washer that came with the unit into the hose, prior to finger tightening the hose to the showerhead unit.

Lastly, I turned on the shower and confirmed that there were no leaks.
