Wire Switch Outlet Combo with Constant Outlet Power Video

Instructions on how to wire a Combo Switch Outlet so that the Outlet is Constantly Powered

By Mark J. Donovan

In this video, Mark Donovan of HomeAdditionPlus.com, shows how to wire a switch outlet combo circuit so that the outlet is constantly powered on.

A combo switch outlet circuit is frequently used in bathrooms and utility rooms.

Besides having the switch control both an external appliance and the outlet, the combo switch outlet can be configured so that the switch only controls the external appliance.

By breaking the brass tab between the two terminal screws on the combo switch outlet, you can effectively wire two independent circuits.

One circuit powers just the switch, and the second circuit constantly powers the outlet.

After watching this video you should be able to wire your own switch outlet combo circuit.

Warning: When working with electricity use extreme caution to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Make sure to first shut off power at the main circuit panel and then confirm all power to the electrical fixtures and boxes are off prior to beginning any work on them.
