Question:
I am in the process of planning a kitchen remodeling project and am unsure
if I should try to match kitchen appliance brand names when developing my
kitchen design. Is it important to match kitchen appliance brand names when
building a professional style kitchen?
Answer:
When remodeling your kitchen, you are wise to spend some serious upfront
time developing a well thought out kitchen design plan. |
Not only is this useful in making sure
you get a totally functional kitchen, but also that it aesthetically meets your
personal tastes. This includes the kitchen appliances you select for your new
kitchen.
This said, kitchen
appliance selection depends on your particular budget and tastes. Kitchen
appliances from manufacturers such as Thermador and Viking are known for
offering very high end kitchen appliances. Consequently, if you choose either of
these kitchen appliance brand names, you can expect to spend in excess of
$10,000 for outfitting a kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances.
|
|
On the other hand, there are a
number of quality kitchen appliance manufacturers that offer excellent products
that will only set you back $2,000 -$3000 for a Refrigerator, Stove/Oven, and
Dishwasher set. In
regards to your particular question on whether or not you should attempt to
maintain one brand name throughout the kitchen: I would alternatively suggest
focusing more on the functionality of what each kitchen appliance offers, and
whether or not it can work in terms of color and quality level with your other
kitchen appliance preferences. For example, you would probably want all
appliances to be stainless steel finished surfaces versus a mix. |
If on the other hand, your kitchen appliance store is offering a discount for
purchasing all of the same appliances from the same manufacturer, then it may
make sense. Again, however, I would make sure you are first satisfied with
each appliance’s functionality, and quality levels, before accepting such an
offer.

Historically kitchen remodeling is one of the best investments a homeowner can
make. Consequently, it usually does make sense to spend a little extra in the
kitchen when remodeling it. You will more than likely preserve, or even
increase the value of your home when remodeling your kitchen. On the other
hand, if you plan on purchasing high end kitchen appliances and your home is
of moderate price, you may not recover your total investment if you sell the
home too quickly after completing the kitchen remodeling project.
