For many families the living room is
the central gathering spot in the home. With most of today’s new home styles the
modern living room or family room is located near the kitchen area and it is
where most people spend a large portion of their free time relaxing and enjoying
each others company.
The living room is also the room
where we usually bring guests. As a result the living room is a place where we
like to showcase our interests and styles.

If you are planning to kick off a
home remodeling project that involves the modernization of a living room
there are a number of living room ideas you should think about before
pulling out the hammer and saw.
Modern Living
Room Styles
Today’s common modern living room
styles include country, contemporary, and transitional. Many of today’s new
living room styles included touches of art deco and retro looks.

Country living rooms use decorative
painting techniques on the walls and wood accent pieces to create a warm homey
feeling. They typically include soft general lighting and larger furniture
pieces.
The modern contemporary living room
of today uses sleek lighting techniques, and limited wall furnishings and
accessories. When designing a modern living room of this style the goal is to
achieve clean lines both with the structure of the room and the furnishings
within it. |
The modern transitional living room
is a room that sits adjacent to the kitchen area and provides ingress and egress
to the backyard. French doors or sliding glass doors are common door styles that
are used in a transitional living room design.

Modern Living Room Lighting
Key to a modern living room design is
the use of the latest in home lighting technology. This includes the use of spot
lighting, track lighting, halogen lights, suspended lamps, and energy efficient
lighting.
Natural lighting is also commonly
used in modern living rooms, particularly in contemporary living room designs.
Sky lights and palladium windows are frequently used in today’s modernized
living rooms.
Modern Living Room Electronics
Since many modern living rooms or
family rooms are the central hub of the home the need to support the latest in
home electronics is critical. Central to the home electronic requirements should
be a home theater system that includes a large flat panel television and
multi-speaker sound system. Consequently when developing a modern living room
design it is important to consider how the living room will support this type of
equipment. For example where will it reside along a wall, where and how many
outlets will be required, and where will the speakers be located. |
