Styrofoam Crown Molding

Styrofoam Crown Molding is Affordable and Easy to Install

By Mark J. Donovan

Crown molding can improve the value and look of your house like no other type of decorative interior molding. Crown molding installation can be complicated and very expensive, however for those who have limited carpentry skills and are on a tight budget, Styrofoam crown molding maybe just the solution. Styrofoam crown molding is easy to install, very affordable, will not warp or shrink and, is resistant to moisture.

Styrofoam crown molding is available from a variety of manufacturers and comes in a number of different styles and profiles. What really makes it attractive is that it can easily be installed by one person. On top of that, unlike wood crown molding, no expensive installation tools are required. Some styrofoam crown molding manufacturers actually provide crown molding stock that is already mitered on the ends, or comes with boxed corners.

To install styrofoam crown molding, all that is required is to cut it to length, apply construction adhesive to the back of it, and fasten it to the wall and ceiling.

After the construction adhesive has dried, spackling can then be applied to the seams to hide them.

Once the spackling has dried, paint can be applied directly onto the styrofoam crown molding, as it comes ready to paint. Priming is not required. A latex paint can be applied directly over the bare crown molding to complete the project. Alternatively, the Styrofoam crown molding can be pre-painted prior to fastening it to the walls to make the project even simpler.

All that is required after attaching it to the walls is a little touch up paint on the spackled seams.

So if you want to add some charm to your house, take a look at styrofoam crown molding. It’s easy to install, inexpensive, and will add value to your house.
