Rockwell’s New Oscillating Multi-Tool Sonicrafter Product Family Review Video

New Family of Sonic Oscillating Multi-tools from Rockwell Tools are Perfect for the Contractor’s Truck or the DIYer’s Workshop

By Mark J. Donovan

In this video Mark Donovan of HomeAdditionPlus.com reviews three new Sonicrafter multi-oscillating tools from Rockwell Tools.

I recently had a chance to try out a new generation of sonic oscillating multi-tools from Rockwell Tools. I evaluated Rockwell’s Sonicrafters, RK5140K and RK5139K, along with their ShopSeries Sonictool, SS5120.

All three tools are excellent to have in the truck, or around the house, workshop or garage, as they can help out in a wide variety of construction and diy projects. For example they are perfect for carpentry and contractor projects such as cutting and sanding small or hard to reach places or items.

Each oscillating multi-tool comes with an assortment of universal tool head accessories that mount on the business end of the tools. Most importantly, each tool includes a Universal Fit System that allows the tools to accept other brands’ head accessories without requiring any adapters. The universal head accessories are also designed to plug and play with competitors’ oscillating multi-tools.

The RK5140K and RK5139K Sonicrafter tools also include a new quick-release Hyperlock feature that enable head accessories to be quickly inserted and removed from the tool with a simple flick and a twist of a lever.

With the Hyperlock feature, no Allen wrench or other tool is required for securing the attachment to the Sonicrafter. The Hyperlock feature provides 1 ton of clamping force, the highest of any oscillating tool on the market, to ensure that there‘s no blade or other accessory head slippage. As a result, the Hyperlock feature enables higher performance and safety than any other similar tool on the market.

All three oscillating tools come with a speed control feature for enabling precise control, and an assortment of head accessories. The Sonicrafter X2 (RK5140K) is the high-end performer of the three tools I test drove. The RK5140K has the most power, with a 3.0 Amp motor, and includes 9 universal fit head accessories. It also has constant speed control, which enables it to electronically maintain the speed of a cut while under load.

The Sonicrafter (RK5139K) has a slightly smaller motor (2.5 Amp) and comes with 7 universal fit head accessories. It includes a variable speed dial for precise control.

The ShopSeries Sonictool (SS5120) has a 2.3 Amp motor and comes with 7 universal fit head accessories. Like the RK5139K it includes a variable speed dial for precise control when operating it.

All three Sonicrafter tools come with a 2 year warranty for manufacturing or workmanship defects. The tools are lightweight with the RK5139K, the heaviest of the power tools, weighing in at only 3.6 lbs.

The Sonicrafter RK5140K and RK5139K are ideal for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and even tiling contractors, who need to make small precision cuts in difficult places or positions. For example, the Sonicrafter tools are perfect for cutting plumbing or electrical conduit pipes located in small and hard to reach places. Similarly, for carpenter and tiling contractors, the Sonicrafter tools are ideal for making small wood cuts such as removing bottom pieces of door jamb trim or for making plunging cuts into wood surfaces.

The ShopSeries Sonictool (SS5120) is an ideal tool to have in the home workshop. Whether you’re building a bird house and need to make small and precise cuts, or if you’re sanding an old piece of furniture with many difficult corners and angles, the ShopSeries Sonictool is the perfect tool for the job.

So whether you’re a professional contractor or diy homeowner, one of these Rockwell Sonicrafter oscillating tools is a must have for the truck or workshop.

The Rockwell RK5140K Sonicrafter Hyperlock with Universal Fit and Constant Speed Control Oscillating Tool Kit, RK5139K, and SS5120 are priced at $149, $119, and $49, respectively, at the time of this product review. All three tools can be purchased at www.rockwelltools.com and other websites. You can also find them at Lowe’s and Menards, as well as at other home improvement and hardware stores around the country.
