Bostitch BTFP72155 Finish Nailer Review

The New Bostitch BTFP72155 15GA “DA” Finish Nailer with Smart Point™ Technology Provides Improved Visibility and Accurate Nail Placement into Tight Spaces

By Mark J. Donovan

In this video Mark Donovan of HomeAdditionPlus.com reviews the Bostitch BTFP72155 15 gauge “DA” Finish Nailer.

One of the best tools to have when doing finish carpentry work on a house is a finish nailer. Whether it’s installing crown molding, door or window trim, or chair rail, a finish nailer ensures a more professional result. A finish nailer also saves time. With the pull of a trigger a finish nail instantly and accurately fastens a piece of trim in place. In addition, it eliminates the need for having to go back and countersink nails, as is the case when using a hammer and standard finish nails.

After I used a finish nail gun for the first time years ago, I never looked back. It is a rare case today where I use a hammer when doing finish carpentry work.

I recently received from the local UPS driver a new finish nailer from Bostitch to test drive. The particular model I received was the BTFP72155 Finish Nailer, a 15 gauge angled nailer that shoots “DA” style finish nails and supports nail lengths from 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches.

This particular finish nail gun is unique in that it has a distinctive nose design that integrates the contact trip.

The unique design enables quick and accurate nail placement each and every time a nail is fired from it. Bostitch refers to this new nose design as Smart Point™. Also integrated into the nose is a tool-free nail jam release for quick and easy nail removal.

An additional advantage I observed with the Smart Point™ feature is that the nose on the front end of this new finish nailer is much smaller than their previous nailers. Bostitch states that they have shrunk the noses on their entire new line of finish nailers by 80% with the integration of this new Smart Point™ technology into them. Moreover, the Smart Point™ technology eliminates the need to push against the work surface to actuate the nailer. As a result, visibility of nail placement and nailing into tight angled corners is much easier to do with the BTFP72155.

Another unique advantage I found with the BTFP72155 Bostitch finish nailer is that it has an oil-free design. Thus there is no more worry about staining the work surface with oil when using this nailer. Bostitch claims the oil-free design also helps to provide a long life for the product. Apparently so, since they are providing a 7 year limited warranty on it.

The BTFP72155 Bostitch finish nailer also has a selectable trigger system for contact or sequential actuation. In addition, it has a rear exhaust to direct air away from the user, and a tool-free nail jam release system for easy nail removal. It also has a Dial-A-Depth™ control for precise countersinking of nails, again a great time saving feature.

The BTFP72155 Bostitch finish nailer also has an adjustable belt hook for easy at hand use. Additionally, it even has an integrated pencil sharpener, and comes already equipped with a ¼ inch air fitting.

The BTFP72155 Bostitch finish nailer comes in its own carrying case and included a sampling of nails, and two spare No-Mars.

Besides the BTFP72155 finish nailer Bostitch has also recently introduced a number of other new finish 15 and 16 gauge “DA” and “FN” finish and brad nailers with the same features.

You can find them at various home improvement centers and construction supply stores around the country as well as on-line. At the time of this writing, the BOSTITCH BTFP72155 Smart Point DA Style Nailer Kit, Angle Finish has a retail price of $199.

So whether you’re a professional finish carpenter or a DIY homeowner with finish carpentry plans, the BTFP72155 Bostitch finish nailer is the tool for you. With all the features a finish nailer needs to ensure a professional finish nailing job every time, I highly recommend it.
