Instructions on How to Repair a Ceiling Crack by Actually Hiding it from View

In this video, Mark Donovan of
HomeAdditionPlus.com shows how to repair ceiling cracks by hiding them with
mullion trim.
There are two basic methods for
repairing ceiling cracks, either re-taping and mudding them or hiding them.
Due to the fact that the particular crack in this video is located on the
ridge of the cathedral ceiling I knew it would just reform if I simply
re-taped and mudded it. Due to temperature changes the framing will expand
and contract and cause the crack to reform if I simply re-tape and mud it.

So, in this video I am using a
couple pieces of mullion trim to hide the crack. I used a scarf joint to
join the two trim pieces together in the middle of the ceiling peak and
square cut the far ends. I then pre-primed and painted the trim pieces to
make my life easier.
I then used a nail gun to tack
the trim into place, applied spackle over the nail holes, ran a bead of
caulk along the edges of the trim to hide any gaps, and then finally touched
up the trim with some paint. The ceiling crack is history and the ceiling
looks 100% better.
