Vintage or Modern: Which is Right for your Bathroom?

Vintage and Modern Bathroom Decorating Style Considerations

Both vintage and modern decorating styles are very popular for bathrooms, so if you appreciate both styles it can be difficult to determine which style is right for you.

When thinking about how to decorate your bathroom you should first consider how the rest of your home is decorated.  If your entire home has a very vintage look, you might want to carry that look into the bathroom for continuities sake.  Or, you might like to experiment with a new look in your bathroom.  Often the bathroom is considered a safe place to experiment, but if you want the theme of the whole house to flow, you’ll want to stick with the décor in the rest of the house.

Consider also, the architecture of your home.  If you have a very traditionally styled home you may want to go with the vintage look, but the vintage look may not work well in a very modern home.

If you have not committed to either a truly vintage or modern style throughout your home, your bathroom options are wide open. A modern style is usually associated with younger people and it changes from time to time.  Right now modern is very angular, colors are not exactly bright, but they are bold.  Shapes are very in, so you might want to choose rugs, towels, accessories, and even light fixtures that have a lot of sharp angles.  This look can be very minimalist or not, depending on what you like and what you are comfortable with.

Vintage style can be a whole host of things.  Many people consider the cottage look to be vintage, while others think of vintage to be the look of the 70’s in which mirrors and the color gold was very in.  Vintage is what you make of it, and it all depends on what you think about when you hear the word vintage.

Vintage can be pretty, peaceful, or quite colorful, the choice is yours.  Generally though when you are thinking of a bathroom, vintage means traditional so flowers, plaid, and country style themes are very popular; along with a claw foot bathtub.
