Planting roses offers multiple advantages. There are also many types
of roses. As a matter of fact there are over 5,000 varieties and types
of roses to choose from. Besides their simple splendor and beauty they
can be used both for functionality and decoration around the exterior
of your home. For example, they can be used simply in a rose garden or
to form natural property borders. Roses come in all types and sizes.
There are shrub, creeper, vines, hedges and climber rose types that
can be used in a garden bed or border to provide both color and
property delineation. |
Due to their thorns they can also help to form natural barriers to some
types of animal life. Some of the more popular types of roses today
include the Hybrid Tea Rose, the Floribunda Rose and the Queen Elizabeth
rose.
One of the great advantages of planting roses is the vast variety of roses
to choose from. Due to over 5,000 rose types to choose from you can plant
different roses every year. However, it’s important to pick roses that are
appropriate for your growing region and that are healthy plants. When
buying roses, make sure to carefully look at the plants and check that the
stems are green and un-shriveled. Also inspect the roots to make sure they
are fibrous and moist. Roses also don’t need to cost an arm and a leg to
be beautiful. Often you can find healthy and colorful roses that are quite
inexpensive.

When planting roses it is important to prepare the soil carefully.
Also the rose bed should be prepared well in advance of actually
planting the roses. When preparing the rose bed make sure to use
quality garden loam with organic compost material. Also include peat
moss and decayed and/or off-the-shelf manure and blend it in well with
the soil.
Rose types can generally be classified into two categories, those that
produce canes and require support, which are known as climbers, and
the common rose bush, a.k.a rose shrub. Of all the types of roses
available in the United States it is the Hybrid Tea rose that is the
most common. It accounts for almost 2/3rds of all the roses grown in
the United States today. |
Another common type of rose is the hybrid perpetuals. They are strong
growers and yield beautiful flowers starting in June, and continue to
bloom throughout much of the summer. Then there is the polyanthas rose
that grows in large clusters. The floribunda rose is another popular rose,
which is a version of the polyanthas but with large flowers.
In regards to climbing roses, some of the most common include the
ramblers. The ramblers have long canes and grow in large clusters and are
often used to cover fences, embankments and walls. Another climbing type
of rose is the pillar rose. Pillar roses are ideally placed around
buildings or fence posts. There are also climbing versions of the Hybrid
Tea rose.
So consider including roses in your garden plans this summer and enjoy the
beauty and privacy that they can offer.
