Rustic Stone House Signs

A Stone House Sign Offers Natural Beauty to a Home’s Exterior

By: Mark J. Donovan

One way to add a natural touch to your home’s outside exterior is to include a rustic stone house sign near the front entranceway. A stone house sign is also a nice way to express yourself and make a first impression to people visiting your home. Also, unlike plastic, wood, or metal signs, stone house signs don’t rot or rust and the letters and numbers do not become faded or illegible over time. A rustic stone house sign can simply include your name and/or house number, or be as complicated to include an engraved image.

In addition, it can be made to any size, and can include additional painted artwork on it. Also, the font style and size can also be ordered custom.

There are a number of locations on or near the home to incorporate a rustic stone house sign. Common locations for incorporating a stone house sign include literally incorporating it into the house siding or in an entranceway walkway or patio. Alternatively a stone house sign can also be in the form of a wall mounted stone plaque, or integrated into an old granite post. Here in New England I’ve also seen rustic stone house signs even incorporated into stone walls located in the front yard of a home or near a driveway entrance. One of the stones that is used in the construction of the stonewall is actually engraved with either the owner’s last name or street number, or both.

When having a rustic stone house sign fabricated it’s important to make sure that the letters are legible and made large enough so that people can clearly read it from a distance as they approach the house. Otherwise it loses its purpose.

When selecting a stone material there are an infinite amount of options to choose from. Unpolished stones, such as slate stone, are ideal as they require no maintenance once engraved and installed.

They also hold up to any type of weather, are difficult to remove, and offer limited to no value to anyone else.

Rustic stone house signs are also quite affordable and can be made to match any budget, depending upon the type and size of the stone, and the type and quantity of engraving required.

So consider adding a natural touch to the front exterior of your home with a rustic stone house sign. They’re relatively inexpensive, low maintenance, and provide a natural beauty not matched by other house sign alternatives.
