Pool Decks – Add Ambiance to Your Above
Ground Pool
By
Beverly Marshall
Above ground pools are beloved by many and have gained in popularity over
the years. Pool decks could be one reason why this is the case. You will
never again have to climb a swimming pool ladder or wonder why you don’t use
your pool as much as you should. Landscaping around above ground pools and
adding pool lights make a fantastic presentation and enhance any patio
décor. Decks are not just a cover for the sides of the pool.
|
|
They serve as protection, just as lights would serve as
safety and protection for your family. Decks for a pool don’t have to be
terribly complicated to construct. They need to be non-slip, and well
drained. They can be made of wood as a normal home’s deck may be, or they
can be constructed of tile or concrete. You are wise to consider
alternatives for your deck besides wood. Chemicals, moisture and lots of
sun don’t mix well with wood. Composites are new on the market and more are
being developed every year. |
They are initially more expensive than wood, but they will remain
beautiful all the time.
They offer a sure footed grip under wet feet, and don’t require
maintenance as regular timbers. The usual wood working tools can be used
with composites also. They also won’t splinter proposing other safety
issues. Obviously, you want them to be as attractive as possible and
versatile. You can have pool furniture made out of the same
attractive material for a fabulous matching look on the deck. Add lights for
evening enjoyment and some creative landscaping around the above ground pool
and your will ready before you know it to impress the neighbors with a pool
party.

Decks that are built large enough can accommodate outdoor dining, lounge
chairs, and watching the kids in the water. The size of your backyard may
determine what type of deck you can construct. Since most above ground pools
are round or oval, it will be easy to have a vision for your new deck. Your
new deck can be an extension of your home; and connect it up to the pool.
Some people do this with their hot tubs, but you could do the same thing
with an above ground pool. Pool magazines will have
lots of pictures for you to determine how you want this setting to be. The
more attention you pay to the details such as pool lighting, plants, etc.
the more permanent your above ground pool will look. The lighting allows an
extension of your entertaining also. You want to be able to see at night;
especially when children are involved. This is a safety issue as well as a
way to make your pool more attractive. An unsightly pool doesn’t have to
keep you from entertaining, just put up a deck and you will be surprised at
how fabulous you can make your backyard. Your pool is probably in a sunny
location, so add plants that can take a lot of sun. Some plants may be
severely affected by chlorine, so don’t get them too close to splashing pool
water. You want to soften the look of the deck, but not so much to put them
at risk. The only reason I can think of for not installing a pool deck would
be because you rent and your above ground pool needs to remain somewhat
portable. Other than that, just add your fun accessories around the patio
and a little water proof storage; you are set for fun in the sun and your
next pool party with the neighbors.
