HomeAdditionPlus.com June, 2009 Newsletter

Over the past month I have been very busy writing new home improvement articles and answering site visitor questions. However one of my major undertakings was to move HomeAdditionPlus.com to a new hosting provider and a virtual private server (VPS). The move was necessary due to HomeAdditionPlus.com’s continued growth in site traffic. Of particular interest to HomeAdditionPlus.com site visitors is the fact that the new VPS service will provide much faster access to HomeAdditionPlus.com content. Though I had some intrepidations about making the switch, the transition went smoothly with virtually no down time. In addition, I have already noticed faster download rates from the site.

Besides moving HomeAdditionPlus.com to a new server home, I also made some structural changes on the HomePage. Most importantly I added two new sections to showcase my latest video and article content. Now site visitors will have an easier time of seeing what has been added recently to the site. In addition, I shuffled some of the major sections around to aid in site navigation.

Over the past month I also received a plethora of questions. Some questions I could answer and others I could not. One question I thought might be of particular interest to a wider audience was on the subject of installing a bathroom vanity in a basement that has uneven concrete floors. There are a variety of options on how to deal with this type of problem, so if you would like to learn more please see my article on "Installing a Bathroom Vanity on an Uneven Concrete Floor".

A second question I answered, that again I believe will have interest to a larger audience, is how to address a leaking shower or bathtub on an upper level floor. Numerous times I have heard from upset homeowners with wet spots on their ceilings, just below their upper level shower or bathtub. There are ways to isolate the location of the leak and minimize the removal of drywall, and in some cases avoid the need to removal drywall at all. Drain assemblies are the usual culprits. To learn more see my article on "Leaking Shower or Bathtub on an Upper level floor".

In addition to technical undertakings and answering visitor questions I also had some time to write a variety of new home improvement content. My article on contractor allowances may be of particular interest for those getting ready to sign a new home construction or home addition contract with a building contractor. Contractor allowances are a mechanism for allocating funds in a contractor bid for building materials that have yet to be defined, such as lighting, flooring and cabinetry. There are many reasons to steer clear of contractor allowances so before signing a construction contract see my article on "Contractor Allowances and their Pitfalls".

In addition, you may also want to read my new article on "10 Ways to Save on a Home Remodeling Project" as this article offers some key tips on working with contractors and how to save money on your home construction project.

For those of you considering a ceramic floor tiling project make sure you check out my article on "How to Mix Thinset Mortar". There are a number of tips in this article as well as an explanation of the difference between thinset mortar and mastic that you should read prior to undertaking your own DIY ceramic floor tiling project.

In addition to the above articles check out my other new articles that include:

As always, if you have any specific home improvement questions or would like to see specific new home improvement related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.

Again, good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and the early summer days!
