July, 2009 Newsletter
Over the past month I have been very
busy writing new articles and filming new videos. Much of the new content
generated focused on exterior framing and construction tips.
If you are planning a new home
addition you will want to check out my two new articles on selecting Lumber
Building Material and Zip
System Wall Sheathing. When framing a home or home addition it is
important to know that all 2x4s are not created equal and that there is new
wall sheathing technology that eliminates having to wrap your new home or home
addition in Tyvek housewrap after sheathing it.
I have also added a couple of
articles on framing methods. Balloon framing was very popular up through the mid
1950s however it has faded in popularity due to fire concerns and costs of
obtaining long wall studs. Platform framing is the framing method of choice
today as it is cost effective and safer. See my new articles on Balloon
Framing and Platform
Framing to learn more.
Also, if you are planning a new home
addition or even building an outdoor storage shed you will need to pull a
building permit. See my new article on When
do you need to pull a Building Permit to learn more about pulling
permits and the benefits and costs associated with them.
Speaking of outdoor storage sheds, I
also wrote a new article on tips for building an Outdoor
Storage Shed. Storage sheds are excellent for storing yard tools,
lawnmowers, and bikes. They are also ideal for removing the clutter from your
garage and protecting your vehicles from scratches and dings associated with
your children moving bikes and other items around your cars.
I also filmed and wrote articles on
Sanding a Wood Deck. If your wood deck is looking long in the tooth, watch my Sanding
a Wood Deck Video to learn how you can quickly restore your old wood
deck.
Finally, regarding the inside of the
home, I wrote another article on crown moulding. Installing crown moulding is
one of those quintessential home dιcor projects. However it takes some practice
to install it correctly and get that professional look. Using Crown Moulding
corner blocks can simplify the project so that even a novice Do it Yourself
homeowner can undertake such a project. If you want to learn more about
installing crown moulding and using corner blocks see my articles on Installing
Crown Moulding and Crown
Moulding Corner Blocks. I also have an in-depth Ebook on Crown
Moulding Installation that is loaded with detailed instructions and
pictures on how to make those complicated coped and mitered cuts.
In addition to the above articles
check out my other new articles and videos that include:
As always, if you have any specific

related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.
Again,
good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and enjoy the warm summer days!
