Happy Independence Day! With
beautiful weather up here on the Big Lake (Lake Winnipesaukee, NH) and lots of
family and friends coming to visit, I expect to have a great weekend of boating,
fireworks, barbeques, and conversations around our new fire pit. I hope your 4th
of July plans are just as bright.
For those who need a refresher history lesson, the 4th of July is about the
United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on
July 4, 1776 and declaring its independence from Great Britain. It was Great
Britain’s policy of “Taxation without Representation” that was the impetus for
our forefathers to stand up and fight for our country’s freedoms and unalienable
rights. Though 234 years later, the reasons and significance of their actions
still remains a strong reminder on what makes a country and its people strong.
Since my last newsletter I have been busy answering HomeAdditionPlus.com visitor
email and writing a number of new articles on drywall, basement and roofing
topics. I’ve also been busy around the home having extensive landscaping done,
including the addition of a new Bluestone patio and fire pit overlooking Lake
Winnipesaukee.
I’m also in the process of filming a new video on repairing drywall tape that
has peeled away from a wall. Stay tuned to HomeAdditionPlus.com in the next week
or so to see this new video posted.

The
Puzzler Question Contest Continues!!!
|
Last month I announced a Father’s Day
Puzzler Contest, sponsored by KILZ, and with a $100 Home Depot Gift Certificate
and a can of KILZ Clean Start zero VOC primer to the lucky winner of the
contest. You still have time to send in your answers to the Puzzler Question. I
will conduct a drawing on July 14, where I will pull a random name out of a
bucket from one of the correct answerers of the Puzzler Question. I will notify
the winner the same day. Please, only one submission per person. Send your
answer, along with your name and email address to:
puzzler@homeadditionplus.com.
Puzzler Question:
What is the name of the piece of exterior board trim that goes
along the edge of a gable roof system, and which runs parallel to the roof
slope, from the eave to the roof? Send answers to
puzzler@homeadditionplus.com
If you are interested in winning the gift certificate send your answer to the
Puzzler question below, along with your email address, to
puzzler@homeadditionplus.com by midnight (EDT) on July 13, 2010.
The winner will be randomly selected from a drawing of those who submitted
correct answers on July 14, 2010. A notification to the winner will immediately
follow the same day. The winner will be required to provide me with their name,
address and phone number so that the $100 Home Depot Gift card and a can of KILZ
Clean Start zero VOC primer can be sent to them. The notified winner will have
24 hours to respond after being notified, before another name is drawn from the
list of correct answers. Only one answer per reader/HomeAdditionPlus.com site
visitor.
New Drywall
Articles
As I indicated I wrote several new
articles on various drywall topics, including “Repairing
Drywall Ceilings”, “Sanding
Drywall”, “Drywall
Texture Methods”, and “How
to Repair Drywall Taped Seams”. Check out these articles if you have
a DIY drywall project planned around your home.
How to Fix Leaking
Plumbing Lines
I had a site visitor over in the
Middle East contact me recently about leaky plumbing supply and drain lines at
the fittings associated with her toilet and sink. A very simple plumbing supply
should solve her problems. See my article on “Fixing
Leaking Plumbing Lines” to learn more.
Insulating
Basement Foundation Walls
Whether you have plans to finish your
basement or not, consider insulating either your exterior or interior basement
foundation walls to save home energy costs. Each basement wall insulation method
has its pros and cons. See my articles “Insulating
Exterior Foundation Walls” and “Insulating
Interior Basement Walls” to learn more.
Tying in a New
Home Addition Roof into an Existing Roof
I had another site visitor asking
about tying in a new home addition roof into an existing roof. This can be
tricky business so that it aesthetically and functionally works. In addition, it
is important to consider the timing and site preparation of tying in a new roof
into an existing one. Without proper planning your home could be subjected to
water damage. Read my article “Tying
in a New Home Addition Roof into an Existing Roof” to learn more.
As always, if you have any specific
home improvement questions or would like to see specific new home improvement
related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.
Again,
good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and enjoy the 4th of July!
