Bathroom
Remodeling Project
With the holidays now behind us and the days beginning to get a little bit
longer it’s time to start those home remodeling and improvement projects that
you’ve been putting off for the past couple of months. At least that it was I
have been doing over the first couple of weeks of the New Year. Last week I
started with the remodeling of my master bathroom. I chose to start with the
updating of the shower as I knew it would be the worst of all the tasks. I had
to remove the old ceramic tile, cement backer board and fiberglass shower pan,
and then rebuild it from the ground up. I have filmed a few videos on it already
including “How to Remove Ceramic Wall Tile”, “How to Remove Backer Board”, “How
to Remove a Fiberglass Shower Pan”, and “How to Install a Mortar Shower Pan”. I
also wrote several related articles on topics such as “Framing a Custom Shower”,
and “Installing an Adjustable Shower Drain”. I also updated my “Shower Pan
Membrane Liner Installation Ebook” to include many more instructional pictures
and descriptions. All that remains is to re-tile the shower, and I can then move
on to installing new bathroom ceramic floor tile and a new vanity.
Door and Window Weatherstripping
Though the days are getting a little
longer, the cold weather is still upon us. Consequently I thought it a good idea
to write a couple of new articles on installing door and window weather
stripping. See my articles on “Door Weatherstripping Replacement” and “How to
Install Window Weatherstripping” to learn about the inexpensive weatherstripping
solutions that could save you a small bundle on your winter home heating bills.
Direct Vent Heating Systems
Speaking of cold weather, if you have
cold spots within your home due to a poorly designed or insufficient heating
system you might want to consider installing a direct vent heating system.
Direct vent heating systems can supplement your home’s existing heating system
at an affordable price, compared to upgrading your existing whole house system.
To learn more see my article on “Direct Vent Heating Systems”.
New Rockwell Tool Reviews
Rockwell Tools recently sent me their
new reciprocal saw (RK3637K) and random orbital sander (RK4245K) to try out.
Both have Rockwell’s VibrafreeTM vibration canceling technology integrated into
them that dramatically reduces vibration. I have used both tools in a couple of
applications over the past month and I must say they are impressive in their
features and performance. If you want to learn more about these tools see my
video reviews at: “Rockwell’s Reciprocal Saw Review” and “Rockwell’s Random
Orbital Sander Review”.
Green Home Building Improvements
Finally, with high energy costs and a global goal to reduce individual carbon
footprints, I also thought it was a good idea to write another article on simple
green home improvement ideas. There are many green home improvement things that
you can do to save on your home energy bills that will not break your banking
account. See my article on “Inexpensive Green Home Improvement Ideas” to learn
more.
As always, if you have any specific
home improvement questions or would like to see specific new home improvement
related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.
Again,
good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and thing Spring!
