Launch of HouseSight

Well today I finally launched “HouseSight” on HomeAdditionPlus.com. HouseSight is a social networking community for DIY home improvement enthusiasts and contractors to share their home remodeling project experiences. It’s a place where people can manage their home improvement projects, post pictures and videos, and even upload and store project files such as blueprints and bill of materials. It’s also a great destination site for getting home improvement ideas and to ask questions of fellow members. HouseSight registration is easy, and best of all, it’s free. So register today and begin uploading pictures and information about your recent home improvement projects. The more registered members on HouseSight, the more helpful it will be for you and others.

For a full description of HouseSight please see the HouseSight Launch Press Release.

You can also get a full introduction and demo of HouseSight at the “HouseSight Introduction and Demonstration Video” on Youtube.

Preventing Frozen Pips

This is the time of the year when many of us fear frozen pipes. A burst pipe can mean thousands of dollars in water damage and can literally force you out of your home while the damage is being repaired. There are a number of things you can do to prevent frozen pipes. See my article on “Preventing Frozen Pipes” to learn more.

Interior Tropical Gardens

To warm up our home, my wife recently built up a little tropical garden in one of the corners of our family room. I have to say it really helps brighten up the day when looking out the window and seeing nearly two feet of snow in the yard. I also thought this little indoor tropical garden was a great place to start trying out my new camera, Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. Man does it take some nice pictures. For some ideas on how to get rid of your winter blues take a look at my “Interior Tropical Gardens” article and associated pictures.

Vinyl Windows versus Wood Windows

Winter is also a great time of the year to see if your windows are in need of replacement. If they are drafty and have severe condensation you may want to think about replacing them this spring. But what windows should you buy? My article on “Vinyl Windows versus Wood Windows” should give you a few ideas on what to concentrate on when researching new windows.

Priming Wood

Last week I had a site visitor contact me asking if priming wood is really necessary. My short answer to her was, absolutely! Priming wood provides several benefits. Read my article on “Why Priming Wood is Necessary” if you want to learn why you should not skip this important step in any wood painting project.

Garage Door Opener Troubleshooting

Garage door openers seem to have a propensity to fail during winter months. Snow, boots, the angle of the sun, and little to no grease in the tracks are often the culprits. To learn more on how to keep your garage door opening smoothly this winter see my article on “Garage Door Opener Troubleshooting”

Installing Baseboard Trim Ebook

Since my last newsletter I also wrote a new ebook. Over the past couple of decades I’ve installed more baseboard trim than I care to admit. So I decided it was time to capture my knowledge in an ebook and share it with the world. If you have plans to install baseboard trim, make sure to check out my “Installing Baseboard Trim Ebook”. It is loaded with easy-to-read instructions and instructional pictures. It also includes links to all of my videos on making various miter cuts and installing baseboard trim. It’s priced at only $15 and is guaranteed to save you money on scrap baseboard trim and time. But most importantly it will ensure you achieve a professional job.
