Completed Ceramic
Tile Shower Project
The past month has been a very busy
one for me. I finally wrapped up my latest custom ceramic tile shower project
and filmed a couple of new videos in the process. If your home improvement plans
include a custom ceramic tiled shower make sure to watch my videos How
to Tile a Custom Ceramic Tile Shower, and How
to Grout Tile. The response on my earlier videos associated with
this project have been extremely positive with thousands of views. In
particular, my video on How
to Install a Mortar Shower Pan have generated a lot of buzz. One
visitor provided the following comment on Youtube: Simply the most
informative how-to video for a shower install on youtube (trust me Ive watched
them all). There is no advertising, and its explained very well. I also love
the fact that there is no part 1 and part 2. Very good job said

Drywall Repair
Over the past month I have had a
number of visitor questions coming in on making drywall repairs, and in
particular how to repair cracked drywall seams. Drywall seams can crack for a
variety of reasons including, an insufficient use of drywall nails or screws,
improper mudding and taping of the seams, and simply from the house settling.
Fortunately drywall and joint compound are easy to work with, albeit it takes a
little practice. To learn more on repairing cracked drywall seems see my article
titled Repairing
Drywall Seams.
Retrofitting a
Pocket Door
I also received and responded to a
question on installing a pocket door into an existing doorway. Retrofitting a
pocket door into an existing doorway can be complicated and extremely difficult
to do. In my article Retrofitting
a Pocket Door I provide some tips and advice on what to look for
prior to attempting to install a pocket door into an existing doorframe.
Floor Repair
I have also had a number of questions
coming in recently on repairing subfloors and patching hardwood floors. A
damaged subfloor can cause a floor to be spongy feeling. In addition, it can
cause the finished floor surface to become damaged or difficult to walk on. See
my article on How
to Repair a Subfloor to learn how to properly repair a subfloor.
Hardwood floors occasionally require
a patch either due to a remodeling project that impacts the floor or an isolated
incident that damages a few floorboards. My article on Patching
a Hardwood Floor provides some simple instructions on patching a
hardwood floor and making it look as good as new.
Attic Remodeling
Finally, I wrote a couple of new
articles on finishing an attic. The articles tiled Attic
Remodeling Ideas and Considerations and Attic
Living Space Ideas explain what to look out for structurally when
contemplating an attic remodeling project, and suggest a variety of attic
finished living space ideas.
As always, if you have any specific
home improvement questions or would like to see specific new home improvement
related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.
Again,
good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and think Spring!
