Latest Happenings
With the holidays just days away I’ve been out doing last minute Christmas
shopping and getting ready for my busiest 48 hour travel period of the year. So
far we’ve had no snow here in New Hampshire this season so that’s helped at
least in my ability to get out to all of the stores. Mother Nature has a way of
getting even, however, so I’m worried my traveling days may be filled with joy
and snow. A little white on the ground wouldn’t be so bad for the holidays. I
just hope it gets here before December 24.
I’ve also been busy trying to answer last minute diy home improvement and gift
idea questions from some of you. Apparently many of you have DIY plans for
yourself, or at least your spouse, this coming New Year.
I’ve also been extremely busy lately with many very early morning phone calls
with the developers of my new HouseSight Community service that I will be
launching in January on HomeAdditionPlus.com. I’m really excited about this new
service as it will provide a media sharing service to members for posting
information about their latest home improvement projects and for networking with
fellow members. There are also a lot of other cool features that will be offered
to help diy homeowners manage their own home improvement projects. And it’s all
free, at least for you the homeowner. If you are interested in test driving
HouseSight, shoot me an email.
As usual, I have been also very busy writing new content and filming additional
videos that I believe will interest you. In addition, I’ve been coming up with
some new Ebook ideas for early next year. I have one that I am already writing
and expect to launch it in January as well, so stay tuned. If you have other
Ebook ideas you would like to see, feel free to contact me at the above email
address and share your thoughts.
Also, if you are interested in getting more frequent updates on my latest home
improvement content make sure to click on the Facebook “Like” button at the top
of anyone of the pages on HomeAdditionPlus.com, or simply go to
HomeAdditionPlus Facebook Fan Page and
click the “LIKE” button. In addition, you can

HomeAddition on Twitter.
Finally, make sure to add my email address (mark@homeadditionplus.com) to your
“Safe Contact Email List” so that the HomeAdditionPlus.com newsletter gets
delivered to you and not sent to your spam email folder.
Last Minute Gift Ideas
As I mentioned, I have received numerous emails asking for gift ideas for their
family and friends as it relates to home improvement projects. My usual answer
is buy tools. Often the average diy homeowner is hesitant to spend the money on
a new tool, or run out and get it in the middle of a project, and then ends up
improvising. The improvisations frequently yield a less than professional
finish. So if you are still looking for last minute gifts you may want to
consider visiting your local home improvement center’s tool crib.

Fend Off the Winter Cold with More Home Insulation
I wrote a number of new articles for keeping your home warmer this winter and
saving on energy costs. See my latest articles related to insulating your home.
They include: “House Insulation”, “How to Install Fiberglass Insulation”, and
“Spray Foam Insulation” to name a few.
Supplemental Home Heating Options
Besides the standard oil or gas home heating system you may want to consider the
benefits of a direct vent gas stove, pellet stove or wood stove. Each have their
pros and cons for providing supplemental heating and each is capable of heating
you entire home if you buy one large enough. Read my articles on “Wood Pellet
Stoves” and “Gas Stoves versus Wood Stoves” to learn more.
Preventing Ice Dams
Ice Dams are a common problem in winter, however in most cases they can be
avoided with proper attic insulation and ventilation. I filmed a few videos on
this subject. Check out these new videos “Attic Ventilation Systems”, “Soffit
Vents”, “Ridge Vents” to learn more on how to prevent ice dams this winter.
Snowblower Maintenance and Repair
If you live in high snow fall areas a snowblower is a must. Make sure your
snowblower is in tip top season before the snow flies so that you don’t find
yourself on the other end of a snow shovel heaving snow. See my article on
“Snowblower Maintenance and Repair” to avoid the snowblower blues this winter.
Solar Roof Shingles
I couldn’t go a newsletter issue without discussing a new home improvement
technology topic. Chock it up to my electrical engineering background or my
quest for reducing our dependency on foreign oil. There are some new solar roof
shingles on the market today that look very similar to existing asphalt shingles
and that can provide sufficient electricity to supply your entire home. Some
even have the ability to provide both electricity and hot water to your home and
still look aesthetically attractive. See my article on “Solar Roof Shingles” to
learn more.
Other New Articles to Check Out
As always, if you have any specific
home improvement questions or would like to see specific new home improvement
related content send your questions to me at mark@homeadditionplus.com.
Again,
good luck with your DIY home improvement projects and Happy Holidays!
