Dear HomeAdditionPlus.com Website Visitor,

In this month’s newsletter I focus on basement remodeling.  A finished basement is becoming more than just an afterthought with home buyers. Increasingly home buyers are seeking out new homes with finished basements. A finished basement can provide up to nearly 100% more living space in a home, and is an ideal space for a recreation room, home office, exercise room, or even an extra bedroom.

Because a basement remodeling project does not require excavation, and exterior wall and roof construction, it is one of the most affordable home remodeling projects to undertake.

Also, due to growing home buyer interest, a finished basement provides one of the highest returns on investment.

Finally, a basement remodeling project is an endeavor that most do it yourself homeowners can tackle. It is a project that can be completed at a leisurely rate, as there are no weather concerns or impact to the rest of the home. See my articles on “Finished Basement Trends” and “Finishing a Basement Can Be Rewarding” to get a high level view about finishing your basement.

A couple of key basement remodeling areas to consider include Basement Ceilings, Basement Windows, and Basement Doors. I have written articles on each of these topics that answer questions on these subjects. See “Basement Ceilings–Dropped Ceilings vs Drywall Ceilings”, “Basement Windows” and “Basement Bulkhead Doors”.

In addition to new basement remodeling information, I have added many more articles and videos to HomeAdditionPlus.com, including Soldering Copper Pipes Video, Gluing PVC Pipes Video , Taping and Mudding Drywall, Fixing an Interior Door Latch video, and much more. See below for HomeAdditionPlus.com’s newest home improvement content.

If you have specific home improvement questions feel free to visit the Ask HomeAdditionPlus forum, where you can share your questions, and get answers from our community of homeowners and contractors.

As always, if you have any specific Home Improvement questions or would like to see articles on certain subjects send me an email at contact@homeadditionplus.com.

Also, if you have pictures of your home or latest home improvement project that you want to share with the HomeAdditionPlus.com community [Click Here] and we will create your own home improvement project’s unique webpage.

Again, good luck with your summer home improvement projects, and have a great Labor Day weekend.

Basement Ceilings - Ceiling Tiles vs Drywall

One of the biggest decisions I had to make when finishing my basement was deciding on whether to install dropped ceiling tiles or a drywall ceiling. Installing dropped ceiling tiles in a basement has several advantages.  First and foremost, it provides you easy access to pipes and wires running up in the main level floor joists. [Read More]

Basement Windows

Have you ever been in a basement where there are either few or no basement windows? The basement is dark and musty and unappealing for spending any length of time in it. Basement windows play a couple of key roles in your basement. They let light in, and allow you to let stale musty air out of the basement. [Read More]

Basement Bulkhead Doors

When developing plans for a new home that includes a basement, it is important that the basement include egress to the outside. In many cases a walkout basement is not possible due to the contour of the property. In these cases a basement bulkhead door, or cellar door, is the right solution. [Read More]

Plumbing - Soldering Copper Pipes Video

Mark Donovan, of HomeAdditionPlus.com steps through the process of soldering copper pipes, or sweating joints, for small home plumbing projects. Most homes use copper pipes for plumbing supply lines. The steps involved in soldering copper pipes include; cutting copper pipes with the right tools, cleaning pipes and fittings before soldering them with steel wool or emery cloth, applying flux, and finally soldering the pipes and fittings together.
