The winterizer fertilizer should be spread to ensure the
lawn comes in thick and full in the spring.
The garden should be cleaned up of tomato stakes and other
non-decaying items and then tilled under. A vegetable fertilizer rich in
nitrogen should be tilled into the soil, along with any compost such as thatched
leaves, to ensure the garden will be ready for planting in the spring.
The lawn mower, and other lawn and garden machines should be
cleaned up, and winterized for the off seasons. A leaf blower works great for
blowing out all the grass and leaf debris that has accumulated over the summer
and fall months.
The lawn mower and other yard and garden machines should be
either emptied entirely of fuel, or capped off and a stabilizer added. Also, the
spark plugs should be cleaned and a fogging agent applied to the spark plug
electrodes and engine cylinders to prevent corrosion.
To prepare for winter the snow blower should be pulled out
of its hibernation and test started. Fresh gasoline should be added and the
spark plugs checked for cleanliness and proper gap settings. You should also
make sure that the augur system works freely and that you have spare break away
augur bolts.
The rakes and summer shovels should be rotated out and
replaced with snow shovels and de-icing material and sand buckets.
If you have a pool, the chemicals will need to be added,
the cover put on and the pump and filter system stored away in a cool dry place.
With these simple tasks completed, you will be ready for
the first snow flake and for the return of spring.

During the month of September we introduced our
Home Addition
Bid Sheets to help homeowners find the right contractors for home
projects.
The Bid Sheets help you through the contractor selection
process. You provide our Bid Sheet to your prospective contractor(s) and
they fill it out and return it to you. Questions are written so that you can
assess if the contractor is right for your project.
