Copper Mailboxes Provide Beauty and Durability

Copper Mailboxes offer Sturdiness and Old School Charm

By: Mark J. Donovan

As an alternative to the standard metal or plastic mailbox why not consider a copper mailbox for your home. Copper mailboxes are built of higher quality and offer a unique old world charm not found with today’s modern mailboxes. They also provide a decorative piece to your home or landscaping. Copper mailboxes are also built to last as they will not rust and have a unique beauty not matched by today’s traditional mailbox.

A copper mailbox can last decades if taken care of, and not hit by an errant object. Surprisingly there are many copper mailbox styles and sizes to choose from if you look around either on the internet or in home improvement and hardware stores. You can even have a custom copper mailbox fabricated for you if you check out some of the manufacturers of them on the internet. Also surprisingly copper mailboxes do not necessarily cost a fortune. Though pricier than the standard plastic or metal off the shelf mailbox you can buy a copper mailbox at a reasonable price.

Copper is an extremely durable metal and has been used for centuries for all sorts of applications. Copper has always been synonymous with high quality and elegance. Copper, for example, is often still used today for gutters and roof flashing in high end homes. It is often seen in expensive beach homes due to its high durability. Copper mailboxes often have a lacquered finish applied to them so that they retain their shiny surface and are smear and smudge resistant.

Unlike metal mailboxes copper mailboxes will not rust. Instead, their unique oxidation process creates a natural patina that enables it to be impervious to the weather elements. The only maintenance required of copper mailboxes is the occasional wiping down with a rag to remove dirt and dust.

If having a custom copper mailbox designed for you, you may want to consider the inclusion of custom engraving patterns, such as your name and decorative patterns. Also, you may want to include brass accent trim and/or newspaper hanging brackets to the mailbox. Painted murals, protected by a lacquer finish can also be added.

When buying a copper mailbox don’t forget to buy the appropriate mounting hardware. Depending upon the type of mailbox, such as a roadside or a free standing mailbox, or an exterior wall mounting type, you will need unique hardware mounting solutions.
